I am running DSL from SWBell via Linux - and it works great.
I had to get the "Enhanced" service in order to get static IP
addresses - but apart from that you don't need anything special.
You could probably run even without the Enhanced option using
DHCP - but I wanted to run a small web site so that was pretty
much out of the question.
I did a straightforward install of SuSE 7.2 and it all worked
out of the box. Then I took one of my old PC's, added a second
NIC and turned it into a firewall/HTTP server for my internal
network. Tuning all the security stuff is a bit of a pain - but
after a couple of months online 24/7 I have yet to have any problems.
With help from people on this list, I was able to get my own domain
name and set up with a free DNS service.
Altogether a suprisingly painless experience...
Now I'm trying to get email up and running into the internal network
- that's *NOT* painless. :-(
