[NTLUG:Discuss] DSL connects but browser doesnt pick it up

I run Mandrake 8.1 and the pppoe program from Mandrake fails to complete loading when called. 
I tried using the rp-pppoe connect that came with the distro and got it to connect but when I bring any browser up there is nothing.   What am I missing?
