You might try booting into Rescue Mode, and then fscking the
partitions...

just a thought...

As to the Samba, I am running it without problem on my home network,
with Win9X and RH7.2 and RH7.1   You might want to check into using
SWAT, which is a web based Samba tool, for setting up everything on your
Samba Server...
