are you truly running 2 x sessions?  a quick check of ctl-alt-F7 and 
ctl-alt-F8 will tell you.

i suspect tho that a previous x session didn't cleanly exit and left a 
stale lock file layin' around.  before you start x, try ls -la /tmp/.X* 
and see what it tells ya.  you shouldn't have any /tmp/.X0-lock files 
and i believe your /tmp/.X11-unix dir should be empty.  remove any 
leftover files before you start x and you should have only one x session 
running.
