Heh.  My problems are slightly different, as my machine is *old* (circa
1996), and some of the serial port connections don't respond no matter
what I do.  I'm guessing its a mobo issue on my end, but since all the
companies involved are out of business, a solution won't be forthcoming.
You might also peruse the Evolution mailing list archives, or join it
and ask your question there, as it's come up several times over the last
couple of months.  I do seem to recall that the conduit packages were
troublesome for several people back in Nov./Dec., but I can't recall the
solutions that were found, nor do I have them archived. :/

RAM...now if they'd just get the bounce feature out of CVS and into the
stable release branch...)
