Left/Right Hand syndrome is standard in large corporations today. 
However in addition to that, AT&T isn't going to provide technical 
support for anything except a MS Windows machine connected directly to 
the cable modem.  On the positive side, even their support for MS 
machines isn't all that good, so users of "other OS's" and routers 
aren't really losing much.
