You might check for a BIOS update too. I have had the problem that you are
having and the solution was a quick BIOS update. :-)

In BIOS either set LBR on for the drive and let it autodetect or set the
cyl, hd, sector values manually. Some BIOS's will work either way and
some will only work 1 or the other way. You may have to do trial and
error on these but one of them should work.
The OS does not matter here, its a BIOS issue.
