A couple of days ago, I posted a message needing help trying to figure out
if anyone else had had this problem, and if so, what the "simple solution"
was. Well, hang on and check out the final results!
First off, I scrapped the ECS K7S5A motherboard...cause there was just no
hope of thinking 100 gig with it....not even after a recent BIOS flash was
done. Replaced the board with a MSI KT3 motherboard with a VIA KT333
chipset. The only thing different is, I had to buy DDR memory to go with
it. :-( Oh well...it still blows the pants off of SDRAM.
THEN, I had to re-pin the drive itself. Instead of pinning the drive as a
"slave drive", pin it to "Cable select". Now, for the best part....
Western Digital's web site, for a "high performance" drive, WDC1000BB drive
specifications state "16383 cylinders, 16 "logical" heads, and 63
sectors"...right?
WRONG! The new motherboard finds the drive as 47885 cylinders, 16
"logical" heads, and 255 sectors".
Now you get almost 100 gigs (97 gigs) to play with!
So...wonder who's right...and who is wrong?
