You are both correct.  I think Chris was referring to the inability of the bios to recognize what it was seeing vs. simply not being able to see it because the hardware wouldn't address it properly.  If the later was the case you are correct that it wouldn't matter because the OS wouldn't be able to see what couldn't be addressed by the hardware.

Sorry to correct you Chris, but if BIOS can't see it the OS can't see
it.
