[NTLUG:Discuss] Linux compatable ATA/100 interface

I have looked at all the hardware compatibility list I can find, and I 
do not find listings for ATA/100 interfaces.  I did see where some folks 
have had trouble with Maxtor and Promise controllers.
I bought a 80G Maxtor drive, and after getting home I discovered the 
EIDE controllers on my motherboard (ASUS CUBX) are UltraDMA/66 and 
UltraDMA/33 (2 each).  Now after mucking around with things the 4G 
DMA/33 drive that is (WAS?) my Mandrake 8.2 drive will not boot. I can 
deal with that if I can get the new drive working.
