[NTLUG:Discuss] pulse

I am trying to gather a little information to measure against some of
the reading have been doing. There are basically 3 computing models,
either in existence, proposed, or soon to be: (a) own it, (b)
outsource it, or (c) subscribe to it. The offerings are a mix and match
of hardware and software within those basic modes, including such things
as hosting the apps, or the database, or both (on your own machines, or
at someone's data center), and an array of pay-as-you-go possibilities
and pricing schemes.

Of course the sales and media hype says it is "the happening thing" and
"the way of the future". What I would like to have, if it is possible
is a feel for how different real people and companies see it - pros,
cons, fears, hates, and loves. That could help in forming a more
complete picture of the future of computing in general.

My preference is for Linux, and my "religious affiliation" is Red Hat,
but since the question I am asking is more general than that I shouldn't
want to limit the discussion in that way.

Would anyone care to share thoughts and insights on the subject?
