I understood you to say earlier that when you ran make xconfig while
following the instructions I sent, you _changed_ the modules you needed
from being modules to being parts of the kernel.  Any module you did
that with is _not_ a problem: since they were no longer modules, they
couldn't be loaded.

You also said that one module you particularly wanted, ftape,
successfully loaded.

But were there any modules that (1) you wanted to load, (2) you hadn't
built into the kernel, but had built as modules, and (3) you couldn't
load?
