First, it's a shame you are doing business with someone
you don't trust (get some money up front next time).
As a contractor, your contract might want to include
something like "minimum number of hours is 40, payable
before start of work"... or something like that.
Second, apart from keeping the hard drive in your possesion,
as you have said, none of these will keep them out.
Third, if they rip you off... oh well, that's their problem.
But many do consider me to be a doormat.... I'm just that
way.
