Actually, contractual timers in software are pretty common. I worked for an
ATM service company where they bought an AS/400 solution from Arkansas
Systems that employed the same type of tactic. And sure enough, my company
didn't pay and the ability to add new ATM accounts was suspended until
payment was made. And I didn't see anything unethical about that.
Doing actual damage is unethical, but CDRWIN is a program that intentionally
makes coasters of your CDs if it detects that you have hacked the software
in some way.
