I use an onstream tape unit when teaching about tape devices and
backups.  Great price/capacity.... and they support Linux as an OS.

Definitely in your price target.

Media can be hard to find.. so, just order it off the web... but
media is CHEAP compared to other solutions.

I actually use the USB30 device (so I can hook it to may laptop).
It's a bit slow, but the IDE is a bit faster.  It's actually a
15G/30G unit.

I would think that it would be difficult (without some "used"
help) to get a SCSI tape solution for less than $400 (well
maybe for 10G compressed possibly).
