Try another X app (e.g. xclock) and to see if it's that process or something
else. If xclock comes up, then there's something wrong with the installer.
If xclock fails to start with the same error, then you do have a permission
problem. For most of us, security for X is not that much of a problem, so as
yourself (I think you said you, not root, started the X process) do "xhost +"
which will open it up completely.
