Hi Fred.

Another one you might want to check out is Firebird.  Last time I checked, the largest DB that somebody had running on it was 760GB.

The main project page is http://sourceforge.net/projects/firebird/.

Do a search on SF for 'Firebird', and you will see that there is ALOT of very useful 'add-ons' as well.

Firebird is based on Borland's Inprise engine, but it has been seriously enhanced.
