WHen you go to install RedHat there is a package group called Kernel
developer. This group includes the headers and source you need to
compile the kernel, as well as all the dependencies, like GCC and other
libraries. RedHat, and most distros, have hacked the kernel (instead of
what you get from kernel.org) into what they distribute. For one, lots
of Modules, so it works with lots of machine without having a huge
kernel. RedHat usually adds things that they consider to be beneficial,
usefulness left up to the reader.
