Some firewalls truly do prevent you from using CVS at all.
One of the developers of my Sourceforge project is the victim of
a firewall like that and he's struggled long and hard at trying to
get CVS checkins past it - with absolutely no success.
You may be luckier - but there is no absolute guarantee of success.
Some sysadmins seem to think that cutting the wire to the outside
world is the only truly effective firewall...<sigh>
