I believe WineX is just an addition to Wine that includes a Direct-X
emulation library - so if you have WineX, you are actually running
Wine.

I think so - yes.

WineX is neither Free nor free.  :-(

Neither of them work for ALL applications - I would expect Quicken
to run OK - but your games will be a bit of a lottery.  Some won't
run - others will be too slow to play - others will work just fine,
others will be really hard to install and will need a lot of messing
around to get them to work.

IMHO: Use WINE and buy a GameCube or a PS-2 for games.
