Why not just telnet into the pop3 server and delete the mail that you 
can tell is the virus?

telnet pop3.someisp.net 110
user yourname
pass yourpass
stat
list
dele msg#s
quit

No download time involved, and your mail queue should be clean when you 
*do* download it.  Much better over all than downloading a ton of 
infected mail and then processing.

Yes, I know it's not secure, but it *is* convenient.
