ok.... I think that there is some confusion here.
Here is what I did. I have Redhat 8.0. I did
rpm -Uvh pidentd-3.0.14-8.i386.rpm
and this installed /etc/identd.conf
along with the rest of identd.
You can use this file to configure 'how' your
box identifies people.
once it is installed, go to (Via the gui )
Server Settings -> Services and make sure that identd
is seleted.
