Procmail can do this for you.  I get most of my mailing lists in digest
form; procmail splits them into individual messages, then sorts them
into the right mailbox.  I used to get a steady trickle of mail in my
various mailboxes.  Now, every few hours (or once a day, depending on
how active the list is) I get a chunk in each box.  

There's a sample script for doing this in the procmail distribution, or
you can google for it.
