I have been using RH since about v2.x (I have the CD right here, circa
1995) and I have been happy with it, for the most part. So I am now
working on this tablet, and 2 things pushed me over the edge this week.

First, RH is about to release their 9.0, rather than updating 8.0, bad
move, I think... This means that I can't really consider the 8.x line
as stable and the 9.x even less so. This is just from past experiences
of RedHat releases.

Next, after I got RH installed on the tablet, I tried and tried to
recompile the kernel. I have not had issues with this pre 8.0, but I
know others have. I could not get the standard eepro network card to
work and a host of other unreasonable problems. I have not had so many
problems with simple things, not even the things I didn't expect to
work, but standard should work anywhere type things.

And of course when I actually had support, every issue I called in about
was answered with "We don't support that", so I need to look at other
alternatives for my own sanity.

BTW, with some tweaking (with the network install .iso) I have gotten
SuSE installed and working, kind of. We will see how long it survives.
