Unfortunately, I am stuck with POP-only until I can get a job or find a better 
super-cheap host.  There are many webmail solutions that directly access a POP 
server and use the 'leave messages on server' feature.  I ended up going with 
IlohaMail (http://ilohamail.org) but not for any particularly good reasons.  It 
defintely fits my 'small and simple' requirements though.
