Subject: RedHat 8.0 - Samba, Winbind, and Pam

Dear Mr. Maxfield:

I am running RedHat 8.0, with all the built in
Samba, Winbind, and Pam.

This is what I am trying to do.
I log onto a Windows 2000 PDC from a windows 2000
workstation using account: linh, paswword: linh
Then, I double click on the icon "My Network Places".
Then, I double click on the computer icon redhat8.
If this is the first time that I double clicking on
the Linux machine redhat8, then it suppose to create a
user account linh, and the folder linh in /home/
(/home/linh). It did create, but after about severeal
hours the folder /home/linh disappear.

In the redhat8 computer there is a local group named
"accounting" located in /etc/group. and a folder
accounting in /home/ (/home/accounting).

In the Windows 2000 PDC I had a global group name
accounting, and the user linh defined there. The user
linh belongs to this group.

When I double click on the accounting folder resided
in the redhat8 computer I can 't open it.

Enclosed in the text file attachment a configuration
of the following files:

         /etc/pam.d/passwd
         /etc/pam.d/login
         /etc/pam.d/samba
         /etc/pam.d/system-auth
         /etc/default/useradd
         /etc/nsswitch.conf
         /etc/pam_smb.conf
         /etc/samba/smb.conf

Please tell what I am missing.
Thank you for your help

Linh
