Try running drakconf from a console and install the card from there. 
The drivers may not be installed yet.  If they are installed maybe a 
"depmod -a" will get everybody happy.

Somewhere in the BIOS, probably advanced chipset or something along 
those lines you should be able to disable the onboard video.

Make sure you have non GUI (no dm) startup before you disable the onboard.
