[NTLUG:Discuss] RH 9.0 evaluation

Just wondering, but since 7.x I seem to have trouble with the GUI
install - it always crashes (X) at some point and dumps - I do the text
install and it will always finish on the first try???? But as for RH9 -
using it as a workstation on my laptop seems to be fine - all the needs
were installed by default - only had to add some personal extras - I am
not biased on the gui front so whatever installs works for me. My usual
thought still stands though - if it is working - don't bother unless you
need something directly from the upgrade

Subject: [NTLUG:Discuss] RH 9.0 evaluation

Hi again guys,

I asked this in my last post, but most may not have gotten that far in
it before they dumped the email. It should have gone out in a different
email with this subject line anyway.

Was I asleep or did Red Hat jump from RH 8.0 directly to 9.0? I didn't
see any announcements about any intermediary versions of 8, as in 8.01,
8.1, etc.

Of those of you who have upgraded to the new version, what do you think
of it? Bugs? Kudos? Did they fix some of the stuff they broke going
from 7.3 to 8.0 or did they break more stuff from 8.0? One thing in
particular that galled me with 8.0 was that they didn't provide any way
to manipulate the menus (add, delete items, etc). It was supposedly
coming out in the next release.

So what do you think? Is it worth the time and effort to download the
ISO's and upgrade? I'm on DSL, so while it will take some time to
download, it wouldn't be like being on a dial up. About 2 hours per CD
is what it seems to be running.

Thanks,

Wayne
