Many movies have their graphics rendered on large Linux clusters (probably
not Beowulf clusters though) - and increasingly studio's are using a varient
of The GIMP (called 'FilmGIMP') for doing image compositing, blue-screen work,
etc. Some studio's are moving to using the Maya 3D modeller under Linux
too - although many still do that phase of the work under Windoze. The
SoftImage 3D modeller is also quite popular and now that's been ported to
Linux, we'll see more studio's seeing the convenience of using Linux for
the entire process.

I'm not sure specifically about The Matrix though. I'd be suprised if
Linux wasn't involved in the process somewhere.
