Oh yes, I went 512M on boot and it worked fine.  I then started trying to 
work my way down from 1GB to see how much RAM it would tolerate.  The 
answer is somewhere between 512 and 768M.  I'm thinking more like 512M.

So going text on boot made yours happy again?
