F-Prot works well and is updated often.

Free for home use, I think it's about $300 for corporate (server) use.

They also provide you with a shell script that you can make a cron job to 
go out each night and get updates to the definitions.

The Linux version is command-line only; basically a port of the DOS 
version.

I wouldn't suggest running it on / every night.  What I do is run it on 
seperate filesystems over different days.  For example:
/usr on Monday night
/home on Tuesday night
/var and /tmp and /local (which is my /usr/local and /opt) on Wednesday 
night
etc...

Keeps the scan times down and keeps from killing your load average for an 
extended period.
