Thanks for all the information. I will look into
these. jabber particularly interests me because it can
also be isolated from the rest of the
network/internet.

I am looking for this because i use it for work. I did
not know it till recently but i think about a week ago
the new virus got my XP box. It was really sluggish at
times for no apparent reason, sometimes so sluggish
the mouse would not move and i would have to reboot to
continue. At least 3 times i recieved an error message
something to the effect of "RPC error, Automatically
rebooting in 30 seconds". looking back at this i
wonder if it was so slow because the virus was eating
up cpu cycles and probably lots of bandwidth too.

Since it has happened i have been thinking, the popup
window with the error message in it did not look like
a window i have seen before. It was a little different
color and looked different than the standard design.

I am thinking since i am workin on a windows box about
having a Linux or BSD box setup for internet access
and keep the windows box offline, just use it locally
for software development.

Monday i recieved Slackware 9.0, FreeBSD 5.1, and
OpenBSD 3.3 from cheapbytes and i am anxious to try
them out now.

Thanks,
Tom Tumelty
