[NTLUG:Discuss] Something to ponder (bad Linux enterprise experience article)

Ya'know...that article reminded me of an EDI project I am involved in at
work - I run the UNIX database servers involved. A customer of ours is
insisting on EDI invoices - period, end report. Corporate has used a
particular EDI product before, so the financial folks in our "business
unit" picked it for use here and now. There was the usual promise of
meetings, discussions, and maybe some training, right, Well the
software arrives and it is a package that runs on MS, so without any
discussion it was handed over to a guy who loads software on MS
machines. Then he says to me, so where is the file I need for EDI to
send? Yeah, yeah...the answer is obvious, but I need these guys to
understand what they are dealing with because I don't have time to
babysit an MS box, and also I don't want the project to fail, OK. So I
am doing my best to nudge them toward a good, supportable conclusion.
Fortunately the network guys here are in favor of the process I am
advocating, so just maybe ... Oh, well.
