[NTLUG:Discuss] Debian help

I am trying the knoppix route right now. As for jigdo I guess mileage may
vary as I had trouble grasping the true purpose of jigdo as used for the
debian distro. Does it build installer cds just with the packages you want
and if so how do you select just the packages you want. I downloaded the
windows version and started it up pointed it at a jigdo file on a mirror
site and waited and waited. My lack of patience and thirst for results led
me to terminate the program and begin searching for another way.
Also are you speaking of the page found here
http://www.debian.org/CD/jigdo-cd/? If so this is the page I was at and for
the record I allowed the jigdo process to run for 30 minutes before deciding
something wasn't right and bailing on it. I guess it is always possible I
didn't wait long enough to be prompted to do anything else.
Something else you might be able to answer seeing as how this appears to be
a distro your familiar with. How difficult is it to keep debian up to date
with the latest release. Can a full system be updated remotely over the
internet via ssh maybe?

If you do not want to purchase CDs from someone, your
best bets are either the KNOPPIX one already mentioned
or to download one of the netinst CD (or floppy)
images and do a network based install. That way, you
only download the packages that you actually want.
That said, I have "jigdo'd" two architectures worth of
Woody CDs (i386 and Powerpc). The jigdo process is
actually fairly straight forward, I simply followed
the directions I found on debian.org.
I should have a copy of the i386 set with me in the
morning (unless I gave them away).
(Webmail is painful. Unfortunately, my computer died
on Wednesday - hopefully it is _just_ the power
supply - and I am attempting to avoid scattering my
mail archive over too many computers)
