Actually, the latest versions of xcdroast seem to take care of 
this automatically.  Earlier versions (like 0.98alpha9) required 
you to click on "Calculate size" every time.  Newer versions, 
OTOH, will even take care of "non-root mode" setup for you. :D

Probably one of the most non-intuitive things about xcdroast is 
burning a CD when you already have a pre-built ISO (maybe one 
you downloaded from linuxiso.org).  With that, you end up having 
to know what directory (or directories) your particular user is 
allowed to use for storing CD images, and place your ISO there 
before you go to "Write tracks".  That's always been a bit of an 
annoyance to me.
