I believe Mandrake and all the rest have an "upgrade" capability, if so,
then there is a trick using Slackware 7.1 install floppies or the
minimum install from CDROM....
Assume you have to use the floppies:
You will need about 19 blank floppy disks, all formated at 1.44M. Create
the boot floppy using a kernel that supports PCMCIA. Create the
rootdisk. Make each of the "a" series floppies and label them.
Install the bootdisk and reboot, it will prompt you for the rootdisk and
use it. Follow the install scripts up to installing the software. Pick
"expert" mode and use the arrow keys t scroll up and down and use the
space bar to unmark everything but the "a" series software. Continue the
installation and install ALL of the packages by using the arrow keys and
space bar.
After it is installed, continue to follow the scripts until you are
rebooted and running a minimal Slackware distribution. Load the CD and
see if it can be found, you may have to go into /etc/rc.d/rc.modules and
edit a line or two to get the CD working.
Once the CD is working, find the upgrade installation and run it. When
this is finished, you should now have a Mandrake system running on the
PC.
