MB primary has hda & hdb.

IDE card primary has hde & hdf.

I'm assuming the card has 2 connectors, if it has only one, scratch hdg & hdh.

Maybe a setting on the card is confusing the system? I've seen that with SCSI
cards, as they have a BIOS like setting/ability (not sure how to describe
this, I normally have it turned off).

That does seem weird. I'd suggest trying to solve the above problem as these
last 2 are definitely related. I personally prefer LILO, but I know others
prefer GRUB; so use whatever works best for you.
