Chris's take on this:
IBM has been pushing for RH or SUSE to step up to the charge
of providing TRUE enterprise support. RH appears to support
dial tone and they are heavily valued since they are public
(my guess is that they took the money savings from not making
the boxed sets in the last quarter... possibly a strategic
error now). SUSE, as a private company, is going to be
far easier to acquire. Novell... an interesting company
with many ups and downs.. but apparently, they have convinced
IBM that they are the right player to take a Linux distribution
into the full enterprise support position... so much so..
that IBM in a related deal is giving Novell $50 million (sure
makes the SCO collections look trivial).
It could also mean that IBM has some pretty serious sights set
on Novell.
I can't see this as meaning anything good for Redhat.
