cheap san was (E: [NTLUG:Discuss] File Size Limit)

Hi Ralph,
This is one option I was considering as a phased (cheaper) test
process . I can run dual nic on the
High power workstation because the original lan must remain intact for
internet access. How
Then do I "INFORM" programs to use SPECIFICALLY the gig nic for the file
xfers. I have no experience
Directing multiple proggies to traffic specific routes in a multi-homed
system. The Box B also would be
multi-homed unless there is a way I can use only the single gig nic in that
file storage box.
As you say, if the throughput proves adequate I can add a switch (or not)
Down the road.
Thanks for your help.
Alfred

Howdy,
If you want to start a little cheaper while you are testing, just buy
the two Intel GB nics. Use a crossover cable to connect the two
machines and see what you transfer rate is. If it is worth it, you can
then go buy the GB switch. If not, don't bother. This will give you
the highest performance your system is capable of. Even a good switch
slows things down a few percent.
Good day,
Ralph
