Jello Robert,

Thanks for the script aproach. I shall work with it as soon as the
linux file server box is added.

Does this script only run linux to linux or will it work linux to win32 or
can it be mod to run win32 to win32?

Also I found I believe what I was looking for in "quick & dirty" drive
benchmarks for the win32 side

Of the system. I came up with PCMark2002/3
(http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/storage/display/pcmark2002.html)

And Passmark (http://www.passmark.com). As you can see the PCMark article
gives some nice insight

In various mfg's disk drive performanceon fat32 -vs- ntfs cached/uncached.
BUT, what I still did not

Find is a similar comparison -vs- linux ext2/ext3 or higher.

Alfred

Not too long ago I created a script to measure how fast I can copy a
file from one machine to another over GigE. The script, raw data, and
conclusions are available here:
   http://www.cwelug.org/cgi-bin/wiki.cgi?TimingScripts

For my setup, the write speed of the local disk was the rate-limiting
step:
   2000MB/151s = 13 MB/s
using NFS made it worse:
   2000MB/198s = 10 MB/s

In other words, I was barely making use of the GigE.

Feel free to use and modify the script for your own needs.

Regards,
- Robert
