An excelent idea tr_data, for my individual sporadic needs however, for the
innocent end users

Of the production video editing system this would not be viable.

A totally different idea that may or may not be practical for your need:
Just thought I'd throw this out there. How about a removable hard
drive? There are kits that convert an internal to such (therefore you
avoid the premium of an external hd). So you copy all the stuff onto
that drive, yank, and plop into the other machine. Finally copy to that
new machine. Depends on how often you do this, etc. as to if this is
a practical idea.
