[NTLUG:Discuss] Mandrake X update

A friend and I both use Mandrake. He is using 9.2 on both a laptop (Compaq
model 1260 500mhz) and a desktop (Pentium 1300mhz). On monday he used the
Mandrake Update service to update the new install on the laptop. This
included several rpm's for XFree86. The upgrade hung part way through. He
was then not able to get X to start at all. I found that XF86Config-4 was
gone. The thing is, when he did an update on the desktop, the same thing
happened. In both cases it was easier to migrate the files off the drives
and reinstall 9.2.

My worry is that my machine needs the same update, and I do not want to hose
XF86 when I do it. My question: has anyone else seen this behavior from the
XF86 update? If this is an isolated instance, I will chance the update, and
try and fix it with urpmi if it breaks XF86. My box is Mandrake 9.1 on an
Athlon 1300, Nvidia video card.

Thanks.
