You might want to check out SuSE.  The only time I have ever had a
serious problem with  the auto-update was when I manually recomplied glibc.
The auto-updater is RPM based, so the only consistent trouble I ever had
was when I either mis-selected stuff on install, or replaced library files
with manually compiled versions.
