I for one in this particular case cannot give them the benefit of the doubt
or cut them a break as you stated. It is my opinion that no one will know
what the outcome of this move will be until it begins to play itself out and
then it may not be until a post mortem that anyone really knows what
happened. In any event I understand were the doomsayers and cheerleaders
are coming from. Doomsayers, given some of redhats history and the apparent
pattern that is emerging. Cheerleaders, simply have some sort of perceived
vested interest in redhats success and want it to be great. Currently I'm
in the middle leaning towards doomsday I don't know what the outcome will be
but I'm not going to say it is a good thing until I see what they do not
just what they say.
One good thing about the current state of things is if redhat starts a trend
south switching distros will not require that much time invested. Not just
yet anyway.
