My father has SBC/Yahoo DSL (in Corpus Christi), and his system
uses PPPOE.  We bought him a Linksys 4-port wireless router 
($60 @ Best Buy), set it up with PPPOE, and it's worked great
since then.

My dad's machine is connected to the router via cabled ethernet,
but the wireless version of the Linksys was the same price as
the non-wireless one, and it's useful when I visit with my laptop.  :-)
For security we just disable the wireless port whenever I'm not
visiting.
