[NTLUG:Discuss] odd log in log out event

Dual boot Intel box (Win98/Linux)
On the Linux side:
Mandrake 9.1
Gnome 2.2
GUI login
System has root and two other users.  One user can log in, the other is 
just sent back to a login screen, after what looks like the beginning of 
starting Gnome (normal background, hourglass cursor, but never gets to 
the logo graphic).  This is new, as everything had worked fine until 
sometime last week.  Any suggestions?  Where should I look first?  
Thanks in advance for any help you may be able to offer.
