I have done this on Redhat 9 - this should work for 6.2 as well.
Get your redhat cd #1 out and boot to it like you are doing a fresh
install. Then at the command prompt type "linux rescue."
It should give you instructions like:
"chroot /mnt/sysimage"
which should allow you access to your file system just like it booted
normally.
You can then do" passwd" to change password for root.
