I can only assume your talking about Print, Scan, Fax, Copy, or just
Print, Fax, Copy when you say multifunction, and to that I say that most
any will do as long as the printer and scanner has adequate drivers and
if the scanner uses standard language, it most likely will. Fax or Copy
are stand alone features and are of no concern for the computer or your
operating system, so all we have to worry about is printing and scanning.

You can look at your OSs printer configuration menu for print drivers
and see if a particular model number is shown, just go through the
process as if you're setting up the printer and go as far as selecting
drivers before you abort. (I have a multifunction device that works
fine, it's an old Officejet 600, but it's just print, copy, fax. and the
only drivers needed are for the printer.)

Historically, Epson has been most cooperative with the Linux community.
We have drivers for most all their printers and scanners, so your best
bet is to look at Epson first. I see the CX5400 is a multi function
device, you might check on that one first. Who to ask? The manufacturer.

I'll bet, if you fire off an email to Epson, they'll be glad to supply
info about their products in so far as their compatibility to Linux or
any OS for that matter.

Hope this helps,
Good luck and happy printing :)
