Scott,
There is no difference in the hardware between the silver and the gold
versions. The Gold supports 128 bit wep, and the Silver supports 64
bit, as you say. But, the neat part is that you can convert a Silver to
a Gold by flashing it. Some stories I see say this was discovered
accidentally because Apple Airports would do this to a Silver that came
in range. I see numerous reports of success on this, but I don't have
any first hand practice. My silver card should arrive any day.

p.s., And I would add Cisco Aironet back to the good list. There was
even a seller on eBay a few days ago who had 10 for sale at $30 each,
with shipping.
