If you are doing it for personal satisfaction, either one is fine although LPI seems to have kind of petered out.
If you are doing it to make money, there is no substitute for an RHCE on RHEL 3. At least not until Novell does a cert for SUSE. The RHCE test is expensive (you can take it without the class for about $750), but it's a *bitch* of a test and I thoroughly respect anyone who has passed it.
And before anyone starts a rant about how Red Hat is evil, just stop. The reality is that they and SUSE are the major players in the paying world. Whether you like 'em or not, if you want to support your family it is easier to do so with a Red Hat cert than with Linux+ or LPI.
Don't believe me? Search Monster for Linux and see how many job postings you get that mention Red Hat versus any other distro.
